
It's a common scenario. We're out and about, running errands or popping out for
some lunch and we run into the local supermarket to grab a sandwich. Mostly we're swayed by the filling, then we might look at the fat content, but beyond that we just grab what looks good at the time and head for the tills.
Britain spends £3 billion on 1.7 billion pre-packaged sandwiches every year! Not only is that a vast amount of packaging to get rid of, but it is also having a detrimental effect on the nation's health and wasitline.
A report in last year's Ecologist magazine studied the nation's favourite, the B.L.T., and its findings were not good. They found low nutrition, high sugar, high salt and high fat content in its fillings. The report which you can read below, urges the nation to either buy their sandwiches fresh from a sandwich shop or to make their own. Having read the report, I would be inclined to agree.
YES, I know the whole point about buying a ready-made sandwich is that it's convenient, but the regular cost to your figure, your health and even your hormonal balance is certainly not worth it.
As I've said before, PREPARATION is the key to good nutrition. Please don't continually rely on convenience foods to get you through the day. Buy fresh, prepare and store. Then be safe in the knowledge that the food you are eating is helping you reach your goals - NOT pushing you further away!
